The Story

Before you play, here is the world your adventure takes place in.

On a hot, quiet afternoon, cicadas sing outside a hospital room. A man lies in bed. He and his teammates have just been found and rescued by a search party. Dark is a member of an Arctic expedition. On their last mission the team was caught in a storm, and Dark and several companions fell into a crevasse in the glacier. When he was found again, he was barely breathing. The police have come to the hospital to investigate the accident, and they ask Dark exactly what happened.

“Detective, where is the girl? Is she hurt?”

“……”

The officer does not understand the question.

“Do you mean one of the other survivors?”

“No. She wasn’t part of our team. She looked about sixteen or seventeen. I fell into a place she called “the Ruins of Starfan,” but I never found any trace of my teammates. Are they all safe?”

“I’m sorry. We haven’t found anyone except you.”

“I see…”

After a silence, the officer asks a question of his own.

“Mr. Dark, these ruins you mention — were they discovered during your Arctic expedition?”

“I can’t say for sure. I never felt cold in that place. If you found me, you should have found that place too.”

The officers exchange glances, puzzled by his words.

“When the search team found you, you were about a hundred meters from the expedition base.”

The officer goes on.

“From what you’re saying… didn’t you make your way back on your own?”

Startled, Dark falls silent for a while, lost in thought, then murmurs:

“I see… So the promise was kept…”

“Mr. Dark, are you all right?”

Seeing him sitting there dazed, the officer asks with concern.

“On the night of the accident, we were heading back as planned. Then a violent storm hit. A huge crack opened in the glacier along our route, and we couldn’t get back the way we planned. We followed the edge of the crevasse looking for another way home — and suddenly the ice beneath my feet gave way, and I… I fell into it.”
